Run the Race, Row the Boat...Don't Give Up!

Run the Race, Row the Boat...Don't Give Up!

One of the topics we covered this week was simply an inspirational message of hanging in there when the world has you by the tail instead of the other way around. When you are feeling down, and feeling just like giving up, DON'T QUIT. The victory may be just around the next corner, and if you quit, you will never get there.

What is the thing that brings you comfort? What can you focus on that will help you keep putting one foot in front of the other? What is the worst that can happen? What is your biggest fear? Let me tell you, we all struggle with bad days, worry, feelings of not getting where we would like to be in life, and the fear of failure. I fear failure sometimes, but failure is just opportunity to try again. I have failed many times, and I’m sure you have as well. I will fail again, you you probably will, too.

“Don’t be discouraged. It’s often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock.”– Anonymous

No matter what you are facing, each day provides a new possibility to tackle it from a different angle. When you are paralyzed with the fear and anxiety of moving forward, stand still for a bit. What can you do to re-center yourself?

              Breathe.

Take some quiet time to reflect.

Make a pros and cons list.

              Make a plan.

Sketch out how much time/energy/money it will take

              to achieve the next step.

Think one step at a time.

Drink some hot tea and relax.

Exercise to release endorphins and regulate body systems.

              Ask for help.

              Consult a mentor.

Hydrate! Make sure you have enough water in your system.

(Proper hydration can improve depression and anxiety symptoms)

Take Magnesium (consult your doctor or other health professional as

              necessary)

(Magnesium has been shown to help fight anxiety)

Do a kind volunteer act for someone.

Sometimes it takes a new perspective. How are you looking at the situation, and how can you change your mind about it to improve your outlook? Life is a beautiful struggle. Remember to look up, see the beauty around you, and enjoy feeling grateful for the gift of being alive today.

At The Old Man’s Podcast morning show, we try to avoid the deep, dark topics. We avoid talking about what is wrong in the world. We avoid politics and other such topics. We try to have uplifting and thoughtful discussions in a simple (and sometimes complex) chit-chat format. We may not be able to solve your problems, our ours, in an hour and a half each morning, but we can provide a respite. Join us at 7am Pacific time, Monday – Friday, and see if we can help you take that pause, sip that hot tea, breathe, relax, and shift your perspective.

Don’t give up! You are valuable, you are a gift to the world, and life is a gift to you. Spend it well. We believe in you.
